$230 registration fee no longer payable for RESs who switch EAs from 1 June 2021

Ceasing of switching fee

Jun 2021 - 2 min read

From 1 June 2021, real estate salespersons (RESs) no longer need to pay the $230 registration fee when they apply to switch to join another estate agent (EA) within the validity of their current registration period. The ceasing of the registration fee payment for switching applications will benefit all RESs and EAs regardless of size.

This change arose from the Council for Estate Agencies’ (CEA) review of our fee policy to explore how we can be more pro-enterprise and supportive of EAs and RESs by reducing certain compliance costs. The review also took into account feedback and suggestions from the real estate agency industry.

The fee removal will apply to all switching applications that EAs submit to CEA with effect from 1 June 2021.

To ensure that professional standards are upheld across the industry, only individuals who meet the registration requirements, including the “fit and proper” criteria, should be allowed to remain in the industry.

Hence, all switching applications will continue to be subject to an application fee of $53.50 (including GST). This application fee goes towards covering the costs CEA incurs when processing an application by an RES to switch EAs. These costs include conducting the relevant checks to verify and ensure that an RES continues to meet the registration requirements before CEA grants a fresh registration under the receiving EA.
