The Estate Agents Act 2010 protects consumers’ interest and raises the professionalism of the real estate agency industry.

The Estate Agents Act 2010 (EAA) administers the legislative and regulatory framework for estate agents (EAs) and real estate salespersons (RESs). Under the EAA, EAs and RESs must adhere to ethical practices and maintain high standards of professionalism. The EAA therefore serves to protect consumer interest and raise the professionalism of the real estate agency industry.
2025 Amendments to the Estate Agents Act
The Anti-Money Laundering and Other Matters (Estate Agents and Developers) Act 2025 (Estate Agents and Developers Act) was passed by Parliament on 8 April 2025 and operational as of 1 July 2025.
The Estate Agents and Developers Act amended the EAA to give effect to the following:
Stronger penalty framework;
Alignment with international standards set by the Financial Action Task Force; and
Clarifications to restrictions against persons convicted of money laundering, terrorism financing or proliferation financing offences.
