Code of Ethics & Professional Client Care
The Code of Ethics and Professional Client Care (CEPCC) is prescribed under the Estate Agents (Estate Agency Work) Regulations 2010.
The CEPCC sets the standard of performance required of estate agents and real estate salespersons when carrying out their business and work with clients and members of the public. A failure to observe the CEPCC may lead to disciplinary actions by CEA or a Disciplinary Committee.
The CEPCC covers:
Knowledge and compliance with relevant laws, practice circulars and guidelines
Due diligence and compliance with law and statutory requirements
General duty to clients and public
Prohibition against bringing discredit or disrepute to real estate agency industry
Duty to clients in relation to signing of documents
Obligations in respect of agreements
Obligations in conveying offers and counter offers
Interpretation or translation if necessary
Duties in respect of advertisements
Duty to avoid conflict of interests
Recommending professional advice where appropriate
Safeguarding confidential information
Code of Practice for Estate Agents
The Code of Practice for Estate Agents (COPEA) is also prescribed under the Estate Agents (Estate Agency Work) Regulations 2010 and applies to all licensed EAs.
The COPEA covers:
Management and supervision
Estate Agent Card
Claims and complaints
Retention of documents and records
