Property agents keen to build up their expertise in commercial, industrial, and foreign property transactions can look forward to new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses in the second half of 2016.
The industry associations will be rolling out three certificate CPD courses:
The courses will equip agents with in-depth knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the sale or lease of such properties.
On the certificate course in marketing of commercial properties, Wong Cheong Hong, Chief Executive Officer of the Singapore Estate Agents Association said, "The course will equip the KEOs and property agents who are involved in the handling of commercial property transactions with better knowledge in commercial properties, prevailing market information and practices, as well as government policies and regulations affecting such properties."
He added that participants will then be able to apply what they have learnt confidently and professionally when performing the sales and lease of commercial properties.
Ms Teo Li Kim, Secretariat, Valuation and General Practice Council of the Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers explained that the certificate course in industrial properties equips property agencies and agents on the fundamentals in marketing such properties in Singapore. This includes keeping KEOs and property agents up-to-date on the changing market economy and government policies, as well as updating and enhancing their marketing skills and market knowledge.
"Unlike other types of properties, industrial properties have certain unique features and characteristics that property agencies and agents should be familiar with... There is currently a gap in the market for such in-depth training courses that would better equip the KEOs to conduct their work effectively."
Ms Tracey Wong, Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Estate Agents, said that it is important for real estate practitioners to cultivate the skill and knowledge for marketing and facilitating international real estate transactions.
"The Certificate Course in Marketing of Foreign Properties is especially beneficial to property agents who focus on marketing foreign properties. They will be able to understand the different regulatory rules of respective countries in the Asia Pacific region and beyond, to interpret the required code and ethics in estate agency work and practices, plus demonstrate their knowledge and apply the necessary skills accordingly."
Each course comprises five 3-hour modules and there will be an assessment component to reinforce understanding and knowledge retention.
After completing the course and assessment components, participants will receive six core CPD credit hours, a certificate of accomplishment issued by the industrial association and recognised by the CEA.
The industry associations will share more details on the certificate courses later this year.
CEA supports the introduction of these three certificate courses in raising professionalism of the industry. We strongly encourage KEOs and salespersons who conduct estate agency work involving commercial, industrial, and foreign properties to sign up for these courses.
