Annual renewal exercise – what you need to know

CEA will be conducting the annual licence and registration renewal exercise from 1 to 31 October 2018.

The CEA will be conducting the annual licence and registration renewal exercise from 1 to 31 October 2018. Here are the tasks and deadlines property agents should be mindful of to ensure a smooth renewal process.

Step 1: Fulfil your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) cycle requirements

2018 CPD cycle requirements to be fulfilled by 30 September 2018
  1. Complete a minimum of six CPD credit hours, of which at least three CPD credit hours must be on core subjects, AND
  2. Attend at least one core CPD activity from each of the three categories below over a consecutive three-year period, i.e. from 1 October 2015 to 30 September 2018.
    • C1: Professional Ethics, Estate Agents Act and Regulations
    • C2: Laws, Government Policies and Regulations related to estate agency work
    • C3: Practice-related knowledge and issues

The CPD cycle for 2018 is from 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2018. Do note that agents who have not fulfilled the CPD cycle requirements by 30 September 2018 will not be allowed to take part in the renewal exercise. They will hence be unable to carry out estate agency work from 1 January 2019 onwards.

Step 2: Fulfil your Central Provident Fund (CPF) obligations

Under Section 3(1) of the Central Provident Fund (Self-Employed Persons) Regulations, self-employed persons who earn a yearly income of more than $6,000 a year are required to contribute to their CPF Medisave account for their healthcare and retirement needs.

Agents must fulfil their CPF obligations by 30 September 2018 before the start of the renewal exercise. Those who are in arrears of their CPF Medisave contribution and are not on any instalment repayment plan approved by the CPF Board by then will not be allowed to take part in the renewal exercise. They will similarly be unable to carry out estate agency work from 1 January 2019 onwards.

For more information on your CPF Medisave payment status, please contact CPF Board at 1800-227-1188.

Step 3: Submit your renewal application

Lastly, remember to submit your renewal application via CEA’s e-Service using your SingPass for individual agents, or CorpPass for property agencies, between 1 to 31 October 2018. Registration/licence fees and/or application fees apply for each renewal application submitted.
