Taking a punch to the stomach to write off his client’s loanshark debt. Hunting down a client’s missing son. These are just some of the unorthodox approaches that Bert, a property agent in Mediacorp’s “My Agent is a Hero” (流氓经纪), has taken to help his clients.

The eight-episode comedy series started airing on Channel 8 on Tuesdays from 13 February 2018 at 8.30pm. Commissioned by the Ministry of National Development (MND), the half-hour-long mini-series covers various public housing schemes for young couples and seniors in a light-hearted manner.

The comedy revolves around Bert, an atypical property agent. A former juvenile delinquent, Bert has turned over a new leaf and aspires to be the number one property agent. He often goes out of his way to help his clients with their housing woes.

Bert forms a partnership with Suzy, a results-oriented agent, to close deals. Together, they learn to set aside their differences and put the interests of their clients before themselves.

The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) worked with MND to weave some of our consumer messages into the comedy. For instance, Bert asks his clients to find his ‘yan dao’ (handsome) face in CEA’s Public Register to verify he is a bona-fide property agent.

In another scene, Suzy wants a client to sign an exclusive agreement with her so that she can be his sole agent. Bert informs the client that he can opt to sign a non-exclusive agreement and engage both of them to serve him.

The comedy brings across an important message – that we should never judge a book by its cover. Although Bert does not look like a typical property agent, he is hardworking and professional, and earns his clients’ trust in the process.

Bert demonstrates that client-centricity is key to winning clients over. For instance, when faced with a fickle-minded client who cannot decide whether she wants to sell her flat, he gets to the root of the issue and eventually succeeds in selling her flat.

The drama series also shows Bert and Suzy overcoming the challenges brought about by disruption as they embrace and harness technology to better serve their clients.

Catch this humorous series on Toggle to find out how Bert wins his clients over (and Suzy’s heart eventually)! Don’t skip the end credits as the main characters will reiterate useful tips.
